ORLANDO, Fla. – Last week, Senator Ashley Moody, alongside Orange County Sheriff John Mina, visited local preschool children to deliver ice cream using a new truck the Sheriff’s Office purchased from money seized from drug interdiction operations. This initiative reflects the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to reinvesting funds back into the community while building positive and lasting relationships between law enforcement and the next generation of Floridians.
Senator Moody has a long history of working with Sheriff Mina to support our communities and to combat the fentanyl crisis. She has made this mission a top priority, from her time as Florida’s Attorney General to now as a U.S. Senator, with one of her first acts in the Senate being to cosponsor and pass the HALT Fentanyl Act. This bill will address lethal synthetic fentanyl analogs and more aggressively pursue drug traffickers and stop the crisis that is killing Americans and devastating communities across the country.
Senator Ashley Moody said, “I had an incredible day with Sheriff Mina and his team as we highlighted their program that has taken assets seized through drug interdiction operations and turned them into positive experiences that put smiles on children’s faces. Sheriff Mina and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office are not just keeping our communities safe, they are investing in the families and children who call Orange County home and building lasting relationships that make our communities stronger.”
